A Clear Look at How Texas Holdem is Basically Played

In addition to the diverse rules and complex regulations of Texas Holdem poker, many players seem to get interested in the game because of how it is basically played. Furthermore, it gets the attention of various individuals by combining the simple elements of play with the seeming complexity of its rules, creating a unique and exciting game that is simply like no other. This casino card game is regarded as a community card game because the different players can share various cards, aside from the cards that are individually dealt to them.

In Texas Holdem, the game usually starts with each player receiving a couple of individual cards for their hands. While some players refer to them as hole cards, others simply call them pocket cards, which are both the right terms used to refer to such cards. While the players may soon find out that the community cards are exposed for everybody else to see, the individual cards are private, allowing the cards to be seen only by the players who own them.

Aside from not being shared, other players cannot use the individual cards of their opponents to complete their hands in Texas Holdem. In addition to the excitement that this aspect brings, it keeps opponents always guessing. As the games ensue, there is really no need to expose these cards, unless the players are engaged in a classic showdown. After the individual cards are dealt to each participant, the betting rounds would soon follow.

The first betting round in Texas Holdem poker is called the pre-flop, where each participant would have to place bets to create huge pots. Aside from the bets, the first community card would be opened in this round, which can be used by the remaining players to complete their hands. Most of the time, a poker game does not end at the pre-flop round, instead the game moves on to the next succeeding rounds as one by one the players fold out of the game, ending only until there is a single player remaining.

The second round of betting in Texas Holdem poker is referred to as the flop. By this round, at least three community cards are already open for the different remaining players to use in their hands. In addition to the best placed during the pre-flop round, this round is characterized with yet another round of competitive betting for the survivors of the game who have yet to fold out of the game. The third round of betting is called the turn, where another community card would once again be opened, closely followed by another round of betting. The final betting round is called the river, where the last community card would be opened, to be followed shortly by another round of betting.

If for instance, after all these rounds the game has yet to be concluded, the remaining players would be engaged in a showdown. In this procedure, the remaining players must form the best hands they can create from combining their two hole cards with the five community cards. The better hand would eventually move on to win the game as well as the prestigious pot prize.
